Cycling in Mauritius began as a grand public spectacle in the early 20th century, with legendary races at the Champ de Mars and the opening of the Curepipe Velodrome in the 1930s. These early days laid the foundation for a sport deeply woven into our national identity.
The modern era was defined by the launch of the Tour de Maurice in 1980, which grew into a premier UCI-sanctioned event. Over the decades, the race has hosted future legends like Chris Froome and nurtured local icons such as Yannick Lincoln.
Today, Mauritius is a powerhouse in African cycling. From dominating the Indian Ocean Island Games (JIOI) to our athletes like Kimberley Le Court making history on the world stage at the Tour de France Femmes, the MCF continues to turn a century of heritage into a future of global achievement.
